Purdue AI Racing is a premier student-led research and competition team that brings together the talents of graduate and undergraduate students from across Purdue University. Supported by the College of Engineering and advised by faculty leaders including Dr. Daniel Williams, Dr. Greg Shaver, Dr. Shreyas Sundaram, and Dr. Steve France, our team is advancing the frontier of high-speed autonomous vehicle research and competition.
While Purdue has long been a leader in engineering and autonomy, few endeavors are as technically demanding or thrilling as autonomous racing—where vehicles operate at speeds approaching 200 miles per hour with no human driver. Competing in the Indy Autonomous Challenge and other high-profile events, our mission is to design, test, and deploy cutting-edge autonomous systems that operate at the limits of performance and safety in real-world race environments.
Offering
Our team’s strengths lie in its technical depth and interdisciplinary collaboration. We work across key areas of autonomy, including sensor fusion, perception, localization, planning, control, system integration, simulation, and real-time software infrastructure. We develop and test our systems in both simulation and on track, with hands-on experience in high-speed racing environments.
Purdue AI Racing represents the innovative spirit and research excellence of Purdue’s engineering programs. Members of our team have backgrounds in robotics, artificial intelligence, computer vision, embedded systems, and vehicle dynamics. Beyond racing, our work contributes to the broader field of autonomy with applications in defense, transportation, and intelligent systems.
Needs
We are seeking collaborators who share our vision and want to push the boundaries of what autonomous systems can achieve. Whether you are a graduate student, postdoctoral researcher, faculty member, or industry partner, there are opportunities to engage in this unique environment where theory meets extreme real-world application. We welcome expertise in controls, planning, AI, perception, simulation, software, and hardware systems.
Join us as we continue to make Purdue University a leader in high-speed autonomy and help shape the future of intelligent mobility.
